hey, here's the beta version of my new page design. the colors may have been unintentionally inspired by the miami dolphins. there's more stuff that will be on this page but i wanted to get something up right away.

this weekend i've been redoing the site to take advantage of my new knowledge of php and mysql. i'm not sure if the new method is perfect but it's certainly been an interesting experiment. basically there is now a complete separation between form and content. all content is entered into a database through this little web-based content management tool i made using php. that means i can quickly update any section of the site from any computer with an internet connection--no ftp program needed. it also means that everything about the look of the site is stored in one file. when i get around to redesigning the site (hopefully soon) i only have to change things in one spot. previously, every time i decided to make an improvement or fix an error, i had to change it in fifty spots, which took forever and was miserable and would make me want to be dead.

anyway, there's still a lot to do so the site isn't completely working yet. i'm pretty sure that no one looks at the site so it doesn't really matter now does it. but i'll finish it up soon and then move on to making the photo section work. i think if i had a decent interface for viewing and uploading the photos that i'd actually get around to adding captions to them.
