this just in: i'll be writing four article/bio/things for the noisepop 2004 program. these are the artists i'll be writing about: pedro the lion, the velvet teen, call and response, and john vanderslice. in the next issue of kitchen sink magazine (coming soon apparently), i have a longish story (1800 words) about a favorite author named ann cummins. but wait there's more! a new issue of devil in the woods magazine is about to come out in which i've scribed three emotionally stirring cd reviews: mates of state, quasi, and casiotone for the painfully alone. all of these things will be posted here asap.

a paragraph in veneration of the initial launch of the raccoon and zebra dot com:

it's never been completely clear to me why people make personal web pages. when stumbling across these pages i've usually wondered, "don't they have anything better to do than sit in front of the computer all day?" so here are my reasons for making one of these silly things. first off, i'd sometimes get this feeling that i hadn't achieved anything, that another year had gone by and i hadn't done much. so i figured if i made a webpage that catalogued writing, music, and photos that i'd be able to look at it and be impressed with myself. secondly, i wanted to improve my computer skills for potentially getting an internet-related job--making a site seemed like good practice. third, i got tired of preparing writing clips and resumes to send to friends who might be able to hook me up with writing gigs. this way people can just come to the site and it's all ready to go. so i guess that, when one considers those three reasons, the whole site is basically about me, me, me. it's probably going to be boring to you, you, you. that's fine. this is really just a rough version anyway and the whole thing will probably keep evolving and changing into different things.
